She lives and works in Veurne - Belgiume
Rita Vansteenlandt paints in the most beautiful and honest sense. Also, without ever wanting it, she contributes to immortalise the noble painting, the "pleinairism" of what belongs to the luminous tradition
of impressionism.
She paints what she explores and sees. After a period that we would like to describe as a start, she is exclusively been busy with a visual reality that dialogues with the gliding of time and its partner, light.
First she painted works that reflected in one way her mouvemnt towards actuality, and illustrated in an other way her need to aesthetic.
In the first case she painted in strong and contrasting colours sometimes monumental paintings about freedom, running and a desire to serenity and the keeping alive of child innocence.
The figuration was intensively present. Striking was her open way of painting, the spontaneous use of mean that concern both painting and figuration. The other part was as a matter of speaking and antipode, in the way that she used material as well as from language to create an ambiance of aesthetic, to configure an elegant language of images, to integrate motives in a field of refinement and glittering.
Her way of painting is not just a reproduction, how impressing it may be, of an ever changing reality. It doesn´t only represent monumentality, darkness that rises from running haze, a clear sun-shone on wall that contrasts with the shadow of plant increase, the shattering of pools of snow and bowl spots, the shaking of mist above water like flight of low flying pale birds.
She translates also the subtle presence of greens, of whites with bleu reflects, of light of all tonalities, of illuminate and shadow, from and volume, reality and the approaching of that reality." H Brutin - 2005
