Philippe Friedberger

He lives and works in Paris

Philippe Friedberger was born in Boulogne- Billancourt, in 1938.

He is qualified in the National Superior School of Decorative arts of Paris, in the mural section, and took part in the Marcel Grommaire workgroup. He studied another year in the Graphic art section. With such an education, he worked for the tapestry designers: Jean Picart and Jean Lurçat before he started to realise by himself ten woven Aubusson tapestries. After his national service, he turned towards advertising. But, since 1992, he has been exclusively painting.

Extracts:

"Because of his passion for the notion of time and space and eternity, the notion of cosmos and the universe misteries, Philippe Friedberger has always been looking for an absolute which is clearly shown in his previous work.

Friedberger’s paintings are a real act of faith which is a way, like another, to express an invigorating thought where the spirituality is not forgotten. We can then salute this genuine artist’s work which evolves and keeps progressing an an almost initiatory way and this enables him to explore the other side of the mirror."
P. De la Perrière

"Dreams of space, space of dreams. Poetry. Magic. Vertigo. The temptation to run away from this too fascinating world which is overwhelming us and which Philippe Friedberger likes to make us discover as the crow flies in the light and transparent blue of a clear dawn...

The infinite. The infinite of an undercreation world which is looking for itself floats, hesitates, agragates and desintegrates, frays, scatters, vacuumed by violent air pockets in a sudden loud symphony of colors, projected with a stroke of brush filled up with inciendiary reds and nocturnal blues condemned to coexist in a threatening confusion.

The charmer, we would be tempted to write... A charmer whose work is out of time. It is swept by a huge blow of pure air and freedom. And this work manages to make us forget our misted over with miasma and big outburst earth by gracefully enabling us to dream of the inaccessible spaces which his wizard’s paintbrush makes us imagine. And nowadays, dream is priceless!". P. Brisset

In his inspiration, Philippe Friedberger has got two guides: the poet’s rime which ponctuates his canvas in a layer of repetitive colors and love underlined by a natural light which brightens up his feelings in a very communicative way. Indeed we could not stay insensible to such a richness of emotion. The artist confronts the abstract and the figurative and this enables us to travel or fly away according to our mood, because nothing is imposed on us from the beginning. It is good to eventually free oneself and build oneself , just for a moment, a heavenly environment. C. Grenet
