 BAZENCIR

"recent works"

from 22 september to 18 october 2008

The contemporary representations are just as numerous as contrasting. Pugnacious, nervous, lyric, playful, baroque, cultured, primitive..., they are verging on others as well, mellower and more subdued, refractory to prevailing trends, that have chosen muffled eloquence.

It is this intimist register with whispered harmonies that declines H.Bazencir’s discreet and reserved syntax. Fortified by plain sensibility relayed by his fancy, he gives us then, from reality, a vision misted over with fine gradations, that associates balance with harmony. Combining a bunch of soft shades which settle the frame where his subjects lie, he recalls the fallacious simplicity of existence and paints silence. Supported by a sense of subjacent construction, shapes are linked and answer themselves without raising their tone, in small gliding touches, innervated in the fluidity of a material punctuated with transparencies.

Made up of a diffuse light blended in polychromia’s pulverulence, these images however are not whizzing past appearances, but are reincarnated with the distance that suits a thrifty perception of his means. For here, disorder and proliferation are not in season. Nothing more nor less, everything is at its right place. And the painter’s familiar themes are falling one by one with peaceful confidence. Misted still lives, like such fruit dish on a table, shaded jars, underlined or half-revealed chairs, eroded walls...exude a sort of variegated quiver that restores the original identity of things.

Liberated from superfluity, nestling in the centre of the support or set back, though some vanishing lines suggest openings, the motif eludes perspective for the benefit of frontality, bringing reality at the furthermost bounds of its assertion and of its fragility. Controlled by the studied passages of the artist’s brush, after the fashion of the ever renewed wave, these compositions appear in everlasting rebirth. Yet, gradual introduction of shades, suppleness of line and velvety exchanges of colour, ordered by a countable gesture of its limits, never overshadow the weight of sensation and the inner time that connote the spirit of these scores.

We do understand that from H.Bazencir’s consistent and meditative works, exudes a condensed life that defies time. Gérard Xuriguera
