MARCEL CHEVALIER

1911         Born in Forrière – Belgium
1927-28    Begins painting – self-taught
1930         Joins the army – officer from 1933 untill 1962
1935-37    Travels to France, Germany, the Netherlands and Luxemburg
1940-45    Prisoner of war in Germany (Military prison)
1945         Liberated by Russians, he returns to Belgium severely ill and decide  
                to devote himself to painting
1949         Two articles in “Arts” in Paris
1951         Exhibition at the gallery “Ex-Libris” – Grand-Place – Brussels
1953         Exhibition at G.M. Dutilleul - Liège 
                Win the first prize at the “Concours Départemental du Limbourg”
                (organised by J.Dessers)
                Noticed by Professor Muls, Conservator from the Museum Beaux Arts                 Anvers
                Le “Musé d’Art Wallon” purchases one of his paintings
1953-64    Attends classes at the Dinant and Namur Academy
1964         Works with clay with M.J. François
                Travels in cargo ships between London and the Antilles
                Exhibition in Paris in the gallery “La passerelle” of Irène Cailler I
                (Ile Saint-Louis)
1965         Returns to works in the Ardennes
1967         Exhibition in Paris at the gallery Jean Camion 
1968         Lives in Paris, in the Hérault and in Corsica 
                UNESCO purchases one of his oeuvres for their headquarters in Paris
1969         Exhibition in Montparnasse (Paris) by J.H Perrin
1972         Exhibition at the “Maison de la Culture” of Saint-Etienne and is the 
                laureate out of 62 artists
                Takes part in Modern Art Conferences at the “Maison de la Culture  
                in Monistrol-sur-Loire
1973         The Saint-Etienne Museum purchases one of his paintings
1977         The Ostende Museum purchases of his oeuvres
1977-79     Lives and works in London Member of th. Center for Contemporary Art
1979         Settles in Belgium near Dinant
                 Exhibition at the “Maison Espagnole” of Bouvignes
1985          Exhibition at the “Maison de la Culture” of Dinant
1990         A retrospective exhibition is organised at “La Maison des Arts” of
                Schaerbeek (Brussels)
1991         Exhibition in Charleroi at the gallery Elian Lisart
1992         Exhibition in Cologne (Germany) at the “Petite Galerie 72”
1993         Exhibition in La Rochelle (France) with Sammuel Ackerman and
                Noriko Tawara at the “Cloître des Dames Blanches”(A.R.E.C.I.)
