Extracts : written in 1981 by Daniel Bordier

I feel deeply that the moment I came into this world I lost touch with my fundamental truth, so I believe the work I´m doing by painting is for me away to try and recover this truth lying somewhere deep within me.
I feel that by drawing lines on the white surface of the canvas, there is a way I can reach this farway truth and find out my true self. I shall say my objective self in constrast with my human life that is subjective.
Beyond the strict images, related to my own subjectivity, that one can see in my paintings, something appears coded in a suprahuman language. art ought to show this, otherwise it would just be one more heaviness rooting us to the ground.

The object ties us down, its the meaning of  the object that must untie us; it is the force capable of moving us in the deepest manner and making us look at  things in some creative way, I mean in some innovative way, because there is nothing as dangerous as looking at a work of art in a way that classifies, defines and therefore kills it.
Looking at the object from outside brings about the idea of specifying it, defining its limits. And then it becomes impossible to seize its secret, read its code and get to understand its true nature in the very place where it happens to be completely different from what can be seen from outside.

Artists and works of art are very closely linked. I shall define an artist as just anybody who looks at the work of art in the right way, I mean in a creative, innovative way. It is not necessary to produce works of art to create; the act of creating will be accomplished by looking at things in a free way, because all creations need to be looked at in such a way in order to be renewed over and over again.

If people regard art as a mere object of amusement, there is no possible recreation. The painting is then reduced to nothing but "wallpaper" and the artist and the work of art fail to meet expectations. My painting will exist in your eyes only if you find the strength to be an artist.
